Announcements

Main Street Design Challenge now open for submissions

A new Canada-wide challenge is calling on the design community to generate ideas for responsible, sustainable and resilient design solutions for hard-hit main streets that can be implemented during COVID-19 recovery and post-pandemic. Submissions will be shared online in a free, open-access Main Street Design Playbook to be released on October 5.

Reopening guidelines and resources for businesses

Find health guidelines, guides for reopening workplaces, sector-specific reopening webinars and other relevant resources on toronto.ca/reopening.

NGen is launching a strategic supply challenge

In response to COVID-19, NGen has launched a $30M Strategic Supply Challenge to develop sustainable and globally competitive manufacturing capabilities in Canada for products critical to fighting contagious disease outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics. Deadline to enter is August 11.

Tech volunteers help family business launch online produce and grocery delivery service

A family of entrepreneurs was about to launch a new venture to supply fresh foods to Toronto restaurants when the pandemic hit, forcing many establishments to close their doors. They decided to pivot their business model to deliver food directly to people’s homes instead, and took advantage of ShopHERE powered by Google to help them build a virtual storefront. City of Toronto staff connected the business with tech volunteers from Scotiabank Digital Factory and within one week Crisp was up and running online!

Ontario minister talks about plan to reboot the province’s economy

The Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, recently discussed what the province is doing to help the tech ecosystem rebound and new opportunities that might present themselves in the near future.
